Kristiansand, Norway

Submitted by ryan.hall on

While you may not associate beaches with Norway, the resort town of Kristiansand proudly welcomes locals and vacationers to its Blue Flag beach of Bystranda. In another unexpected juxtaposition, Kristiansand is also known for its ice cream shops and beer pubs. In this easily walkable city, a stroll in any direction reveals cultural treasures and natural beauty. An impressive example of modern design, the Kilden Performing Arts Center overlooks the scenic waterfront and the prominent red roof of the Christiansholm Fortress. The 230-foot Neo-Gothic tower of Kristiansand Cathedral is a short walk away. For a few moments of peaceful reflection, Ravnedalen is a beautiful public park with cliffs, forests and footpaths aplenty, and the local botanical gardens boast Norway’s largest collection of succulents. When you’re ready to explore the culinary scene, try the fresh catch of the day at one of the restaurants on the charming wharf of Fiskebrygga.
