Long, slender and serpentine, the island of Eleuthera is lined with sands in shades from sugary white to blushing pink. From the Atlantic coastline to inland ocean grottoes, deep blue waters meet rocky shores rising from the sea, and the adventurous can often be spotted diving from the clifftops. The untamed seaboard is complemented by coral reefs, seagrass meadows and cave systems underneath the water’s surface, making the offshore ecosystem a haven for divers and snorkelers. The hulls of historic ships that wrecked on the shallow reefs create an intriguing backdrop for observing the tropical fish, sea turtles, dolphins, and other marine life that populate the waters. Cape Eleuthera juts into the sea on the south side of the island, offering access to all of the underwater wonders as well as the pink sands of nearby Lighthouse Beach. Eleuthera also claims to grow the sweetest pineapple in the world, so be sure to try a local pineapple tart.
