Nafplion Walking and Ouzo Tasting

Submitted by carmine.nezi on

Nafplion is one of Greece’s most beautiful cities, with a unique architectural legacy that reflects Venetian rule in the 15th through 17th centuries and a period in the 19th century as the capital of new, modern nation of Greece. Your guide will share the city’s rich layered history as you stroll past gorgeous neoclassical mansions and beautiful Venetian architecture and make your way down picturesque alleys. Sights include the old Catholic Church, the Church of Agios Spyidon, which dates to 1702, and the popular Constitution Square. Your guide will also talk about the trio of hillside fortresses built to protect the port-town from attack. At the Museum of Komboloi, learn about the origins of worry beads found throughout Greece. The other featured stop is at Karonis, a wine and spirits shop that has operated continuously here for nearly 150 years. It is now run by Dimitris Karonis, a descendant of the family that started the distillery and a founding member of the Greek Sommeliers Society. He continues to make ouzo, grappa and wine, though he has introduced modern upgrades to the family business. In the shop, enjoy a tasting of anise-flavored ouzo, the classic Greek aperitif, along with a snack of olives, cheese and bread, before returning to the yacht.
