When at sea, your skin is often exposed to the natural elements. To counter any adverse impact, consider moisturizing spa treatments to ensure your skin remains radiant and luminous throughout your voyage. Our wellness experts at The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection share their tips and secrets for safeguarding and soothing your skin at sea.

Protect Your Face from the Sun

Wearing sunscreen — ideally with an SPF rating of 30 or more — is the most important way to protect your skin. This is always true, but it’s especially important when you’re relaxing out on the water basking in the sun. Sunscreen is your No. 1 defense against sunburn and premature fine lines and wrinkles. Complimentary sunscreen is provided on the outdoor decks of the yacht, just be sure to apply every two hours or so during sun exposure, especially if you’re perspiring or swimming.

Expert advice: When deciding what type of sunscreen to use, keep in mind that clean mineral sunscreens are not only great for protecting the skin from UV damage — they’re also better for the environment. Chemical sunscreens, on the other hand, contain ingredients that have been shown to damage coral reefs and other marine life. So, if you’ll be getting in the ocean during excursions, mineral (reef-safe) sunscreen is best. There are a variety of reef-friendly sunscreens out there to choose from, many of which do double duty by blocking UVA and UVB rays and soothing the skin with organic oils.

Immerse Your Skin in Moisture

Being exposed to wind can cause your skin to dry out, but a hydrating spa treatment dedicated to restoring your skin can help. The Evrima Signature Massage begins with a purifying — and grounding — reflexology treatment and is followed by an aromatherapy massage customized for your skin’s needs, replenishing it with the moisture it requires. This rich sensory experience offers a sense of stillness and inner calm, provided by the healing power of the ocean. The Molecular Hydration Therapy treatment is a thorough hydration therapy that utilizes a skin-quenching hyaluronic serum and leave-on mask.

Expert advice: Some hydrating, skin-loving ingredients to look for in a good moisturizer include hyaluronic acid, ceramides, glycerin, fatty acids and shea butter. And when it comes to serums, seek out products packed with peptides, ceramides, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid for skin that’s healthy, dewy and velvety-smooth.
