Local Limoncello at Villa Massa

Submitted by carmine.nezi on

Sorrento is famous for its sweet, lemony limoncello liqueur. While a number of factories produce it, this excursion brings you to the leading facility that uses lemons exclusively from the heart of the Sorrentine peninsula. Only this variety of lemon earns the coveted IGP designation confirming origin and traditional production standards. Villa Massa has a history of limoncello production dating to 1890 and also makes orange, mandarin, citrus fruit, walnut and cream liqueurs. You will witness production and bottling followed by an exploration of Le Grottelle, the historic grove of over 75,000 square feet with nearly 200 lemon trees and other cultivations such as spice bushes. After tasting homemade liqueurs including limoncello as well as nut, tangerine and orange liqueurs – with butter biscuits, no less – you will relax on a terrace with a panoramic view of the Bay of Sorrento.
