E-Bike City Tour

Submitted by carmine.nezi on

Equipped with a battery-powered motor, an e-bike is just like riding a standard bicycle, versus a scooter or moped, with the benefit of access to power when you need a boost, or your legs need a break. Your guide will explain how its operations near the pier where you’ll get a helmet and be matched with the right-sized bike. Then it’s time to hit the road for a 13-mile ride. Follow your guide along the Corniche President Kennedy, the scenic coastal roadway that looks out over several small creeks and traditional fishing village. You’ll then ride through residential districts not typically frequented by tourists on the ascent up to Notre Dame de la Garde. Built on the highest point in Marseilles, this landmark church has long been a symbol of the city and a beacon for returning sailors. On your descent, you’ll pass the Cathedrale de La Major, a 19th-century neo-Byzantine-Roman style, and navigate the narrow streets of Le Panier, the historic district that was the site of the original Greek settlement. Stop for photos in the bustling Vieux Port, where a younger chic crowd, drawn to the new bars and restaurants, have infused the traditional working waterfront with new energy. Among the sights are the Mucem – the Musee des Civilisations et de la Mediterranee -- a symbol of Marseilles’ 21st-century renaissance, its modern design all the more striking next to the 17th-century Fort Saint Jean.
